(GNTO)<\/a><\/strong> is aiming to take Greek tourism to the next level, beyond the already established \u201csun and sea\u201d offer, and provide a new travel experience to visitors, focused on sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Thursday during the 100th General Meeting of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gtp.gr\/TDirectoryDetails.asp?id=567\"><strong> European Travel Commission (ETC)<\/strong><\/a>, GNTO <strong>President Angela Gerekou<\/strong> underlined the need for the tourism industry to adapt to the challenges of 2021 and she presented the GNTO\u2019s priorities for the future of Greek tourism in post<a href=\"https:\/\/news.gtp.gr\/monitoring-covid-19-impact-travel-industry\/\"><strong>-Covid-19 era.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTourism was in an adaptation process before Covid-19, while now, after the consequences of the pandemic, changes are accelerating regarding <strong>the creation of a new tourism model,<\/strong>\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis development concerns forming a<strong> new tourism-travel experience<\/strong>, in addition to the traditional context of traveling for vacation, and touches on many parameters such as the <strong>environment, culture, gastronomy<\/strong> and overall <strong>sustainability<\/strong>,\u201d Gerekou added, <strong>highlighting<\/strong> that the international traveler is now seeking a \u201cholistic experience\u201d that also focuses on<strong> health and safety<\/strong> issues, as well as <strong>improved services and activities<\/strong>, in addition to GNTO<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, the GNTO\u2019s president stressed that in order to move forward towards a new tourism model, \u201ca step back must first be taken\u201d to evaluate all that has taken place in the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we have to analyze the current situation and then plan and implement policies for the type of tourism we want to have in the coming years,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<h3>Developing Greece\u2019s online presence<\/h3>\n<p>Referring to the GNTO\u2019s initiatives and actions in the coming period, Gerekou stated that the organization will aim to develop its online presence to the highest and most efficient level, as well as its showing in global media outlets, and highlight the comparative advantages of Greek tourism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile forming a new tourism model, we will carry out the majority of our promotional actions through the internet, also collaborating with the private sector and local authorities, in order <strong>to achieve the creation of a new Greek tourism experience,<\/strong>\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitgreece.gr\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" 981px) 1181px, 100vw\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Summing up, the GNTO\u2019s president underlined that the future of tourism is based on the will of people to travel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u03a4hat is why the role of national tourism organizations is to pay attention to developments and move forward. Here at the <strong>GNTO<\/strong> we are moving exactly in this direction, aiming for sustainable t<strong>ourism development in 2021<\/strong> and \u2013 in the following years \u2013 towards a new tourism model by 2030,\u201d Gerekou concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The European Travel Commission (ETC) is a non-profit organisation responsible for the promotion of Europe as a tourism destination in third markets.
